Toxic Leftist Masculinity

The Insecurity of Leftist Men is Inescapable

Conservative Christians who advance an aesthetic notion of masculinity – the kind that includes a lot of beards, whiskey, and weightlifting – are often accused of shallow legalism. There is nothing, they are told, inherently less masculine about a man who drinks strawberry margaritas and a man who drinks his whiskey neat. And while this is true in the most technical sense (a man who could easily win a powerlifting competition may very well cow in the face of genuine danger), it is also true that men who do the latter are a lot more likely to be masculine in the deeper ways too. Generally speaking, the soft-spoken, limp-wristed man is also the one who couldn’t be bothered to make a living for his wife and children. We hold on to these admittedly shallow indicators of masculinity for a reason.

Yet for all their insistence that sexed roles are, at best, a social construct, and more likely a tool of oppression, leftists are obsessively interested in these supposed markers of testosterone. The same people who thought Harry Sisson would help Kamala win the male vote also piled on JD Vance, a former United States Marine, for swinging his hands a little too much while running after his kid on vacation.

“He runs like a p*ssy,” they sneered, unaware of the irony that they would speak pejoratively of a man demonstrating a female trait.

The internal struggle in the heart of every liberal man is made clear when we realize that to be a leftist is to be feminine. In other words, leftism is an ideology powered by feminine traits that are often used for good, but in a political context, are of little use at all. Leftism values equality over justice, empathy over the rule of law, and peace over strength. A man whose political worldview aligns with this will be in a perpetual state of having to prove his masculinity against his ideology, and he does this in most cases by denigrating the masculinity of conservative men on their own terms

A 2023 study of how liberal and conservative men respond to activities that made them see themselves as less masculine yielded an interesting result. Liberal men who found their masculinity threatened responded by espousing more aggressive political viewpoints, becoming more aggressive and stereotypically masculine. For conservative men, their political views remained unchanged upon their masculinity being threatened. From this study, it appears that conservatives are far more secure in their masculinity than liberals, contrary to leftist insistence that conservative male hobbies and interests (eg, hunting) stem from insecurity. The study offers an interesting theory for why this may be the case.

“It may be that liberal men are genuinely more vulnerable to masculinity threats in political contexts,” the study reads. “In light of the fact that people stereotype liberals as feminine and conservatives as masculine, it stands to reason that many liberal men are especially eager not to exhibit feminine traits in the political realm.”

Liberal men are in an odd spot of envying the traits they decry. This dichotomy becomes obvious once a man on the right exhibits a small physical or personality trait that is less than perfectly and stereotypically masculine. Notions of how a man should or should not act are so baked into society that even the left can’t escape them. In response, they advance a toxic and distorted version of masculinity that is far more shallow and destructive than what the right purports.

Not to mention, liberal men are correct to assume that their political affiliation calls their masculinity into question. Besides the truth before our eyes when viewing the average liberal man, studies quite literally show that higher testosterone levels are a predictor for being Republican.

For the liberal, masculinity isn’t protection, stewardship, responsibility, or emotional and mental strength. It is, however, keeping a steady gait when chasing your children. It is also driving your girlfriend to the abortion clinic to kill the child you didn’t want to raise, and screaming that orange man is deporting the gang bangers and rapists in a way that is a little too mean for his sensibilities. The ideal man for the left is a mythical creature — he is sensitive and empathetic and pliable yet masculine in all the ways that the female gaze, particularly the liberal female gaze, would find comfortable.

The liberal man is created entirely on a woman’s terms. He is in an unenviable position – indeed, a man who defines himself based on what a woman thinks of him is perhaps the least masculine he could be. The liberal mind has finally realized that they’re never going to convince women that beta males are sexy. Their resulting cope is almost too embarrassing to witness.
